Chamber of Commerce of Milano (CCIAA MI) is an independent local public body which counts on more than 330.000
companies and that performs tasks of general interest for enterprises fostering their development within local and global economies – with
a focus on innovation and new technologies.
The Chamber hosts the Special Agency for Innovation, innovhub, which aim is to promote innovation – managerial, organisational and technological
one - and the competitiveness of the entrepreneurial system. In particular, the Chamber and its innovhub cooperate in the local promotion of
initiatives (matchmaking events, funding opportunities, conferences, transnational projects, etc.), answer SMEs questions and report the local
demand for services. Especially in the last 10 years of activity, the Chamber of Commerce has proved to be sensitive to innovative and technological
issues concerning SMEs so as to combine traditional tasks with openness to innovation.
Long standing cooperation agreements with the most important Universities (Università degli Studi di Milano, Università Bocconi, Università Cattolica,
Milan Polytechnic) provide a substantial base for the analysis, study and understanding of the most relevant social, economical and technological
developments that both identify strategic issues and support operational decision making.
Concerning networking activities, Milan Chamber of Commerce is also member of the Enterprise Europe Network, providing information on EU issues,
business cooperation, technical assistance services, supporting transnational technology transfer. In the last 10 years of activity, Milan
Chamber of Commerce’s efforts have focussed on innovative and technological issues concerning SMEs.

MST BW - Mikrosystemtechnik Baden-Württemberg e.V.

Mikrosystemtechnik Baden-Württemberg e.V. – MST BW – was founded 2005 in cooperation with the
ministry of economic affairs of Baden-Württemberg. MST BW represents the interests of industry, research establishments,
universities and institutions in Baden-Württemberg in the area of miniaturisation – especially in the field of micro technologies
and related areas. The organisation is responsible for the management of the cluster MicroTEC Südwest, as well as, for forcing
and disseminating micro systems technology in industrial implementation, in research, teaching and in education. MST BW
cares for the communication of the productivity of Baden-Württemberg in the area of micro systems technology – on the
national and international level. Currently, MST BW has 64 members.

The European Society for Precision Engineering and Nanotechnology (EUspen) is a representative body
for many leading large and small high tech organizations across Europe and world-wide in the field of precision engineering,
micro engineering and nanotechnology.
EUspen supports and promotes innovation and international competitiveness of EU industry by linking it effectively with the
Science/R & D base in the EU and where appropriate the rest of the world. It represents leading industrial companies and
research institutes covering 19 EU and 14 further countries worldwide.
Since its inception in 1999 it has brought together more than 3000 leading industrial and academic experts in the field through
its international meetings, workshops, industrial seminars and training events held across Europe and published approximately
2000 technical papers in the field. With a typical 50:50 ratio of commercial companies to research institutes at EUspen events,
it facilitates communication, exploitation and development of innovative products, services and applications. It provides a
leading forum for companies in the field to represent their latest product, service and technology developments including a large
number of high tech SMEs in the field. It also has a track record in the successful management of leading European programs
in the field.
Both through its membership, its broader network of associated technical/industrial authorities, young scientists, publishers and
through its links/cooperative arrangements to other it provides contacts to over 3000 leading members of the field of precision,
micro and nano engineering. EUspen is also on the secretariat to the European Technology Platform for Micro and Nano

The Microsystems Engineering Centre (MISEC) in the School of Engineering and Physical Science (EPS)
has a strong research track record in the areas of microwave engineering and Microsystems with 30 years and 15 years of
research in these fields, respectively. The financial support for these activities provides a total amount of funding of about
£1.5MEuros per annum. The Centre is specialised in RF-MEMS, high-level design of MEMS, LIGA process and packaging of
Microsystems; all these activities will be of primary importance for the success of this project. Recently, HWU has been an
active member of the Network of Excellence, Patent-DfMM (Design for Manufacture of Microsystems). The Centre has over 6
academic members of staff and 30 Ph.D. and Research Associates, making it the 4th largest research group in MEMS in the
UK. The recent high profile Research project, “3D-Mintegration” for which HWU is the Principal Investigator is worth 12 mill
Euros and includes 6 other Universities and 23 companies. The project aims to design, manufacture, package and test, 3D

The Computational Mechanics and Reliability Group, based within the School of Computing and
Mathematical Sciences, University of Greenwich, contains a multi-disciplinary team of sixteen researchers from backgrounds in
Microsystems Engineering, Applied Maths, Materials and Computer Science.
The group has a focus on developing and using design and simulation software tools. It is a co-developer of the multi-physics
modelling environment PHYSICA, as well as other in-house software tools such as optimisation and risk analysis ROMARA. It
also a suite of other commercial modelling tools for micro-nano systems and access to a high performance parallel computing
system and visualisation tools. Particular application of the group’s efforts has been on the development of numerical models
and software for design, analysis, uncertainty qualification, reliability and optimisation of Micro and Nano-scale devices and
systems.
